Overview

Virginia Farm Bureau is seeking an experienced administrative professional to provide administrative and accounting support to the Commodity/Marketing department with an emphasis on supporting grain operations and department activities that impact the sustainability of agriculture. The position title is Commodities Support Specialist and is based out of our West Creek – Home Office in Richmond, VA.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Perform general administrative duties such as answering phones, delivering messages, generating reports as needed and correspondence.
  • Assist in drafting, editing and circulating both internal and external communication
  • Accurately invoice products and services purchased by customers
  • Handle customer phone calls and dispatch to the appropriate person
  • Provide clear communication to management, employees, members, and customers
  • Process documents to update and maintain files and records
  • Accurately track invoices and apply payments received to customers’ accounts
  • Establish and maintain organized filing system
  • Support department staff with planning and logistics for conferences/meetings
  • Attend appropriate training and continuing education opportunities as directed
  • Provide prompt and courteous customer service
  • Project a positive attitude and image to customers, employees, and business partners
  • Proof  and create presentations designed for public display

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Maintain accurate records of all grain transactions
  • Serve as internal staff support
  • All other duties assigned by the Director of Commodity/Marketing

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of administrative, customer service or data entry experience
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
  • Desire to serve farmers, agribusinesses and others involved in the agriculture industry

 

MINIMUM SKILL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
  • Proficient in solving basic math and problem solving skills
  • Ability to learn key operational computer programs
  • General knowledge of accounting practices
  • Familiarity with accounting software desired
  • Strong analytical and decision making abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills including multi-tasking, planning, and prioritizing
  • Ability to remain flexible in a quickly changing environment
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strong emotional intelligence (EQ)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Willingness to work both as a team member and independently, while being self-motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers, members, employees, supervisors, and suppliers
  • Comfort level communicating over broad public platforms
  • Travel to assist with organizational events or department meetings up to 10%

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Farming background
  • Cooperative and/or agricultural background desirable
  • Prior experience with Grain Smart or equivalent
  • Experience in social media, website, or general mass communication coordination
